LIHUE — Keenan Moses, celebrating a birthday this weekend, got the crowd and the Kauai Bulldog bench roused Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
The big Bulldog got the nod to carry the ball the final yard to paydirt as the Mother’s Day crowd erupted in cheer as the hoard of Kapaa Warrior defenders converged on the lumbering ball carrier with 8:23 showing in the game.
Moses’ touchdown triggered the running clock during the 38-0 Kauai Bulldog victory against Kapaa.
The Kauai Bulldogs, undefeated in the Kauai Youth Football league season, went to its quarterback Boogie Yam for three touchdowns and a key pass interception in leading the squad of sixth through eighth graders to its win.
Yam opened the books with a 63-yard scoring run and got help from Brycenson Abigania who added a 21-yard scoring run in the first quarter.
The Kauai Bulldog capitalized on a bad snap and a fumble recovery in the end zone for a pair of safeties to start the second quarter an 18-0 Bulldog lead.
Yam added a pair of touchdowns, a 12-yard and a 38-yard strike, in the second quarter while Bulldog defender Oli Baclayon snagged a Lanakila Pagtolingan pass for the 32-0 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs will enjoy a week off while the Kapaa Warriors will match up against the Westside Pride on Sunday at Vidinha Stadium starting at 10 a.m.
The Kapaa and Westside series is tied at one win apiece as the Pride rolled over the Warriors on its first meeting only to have Kapaa nip the Pride 8-6 in its second meeting of the season.
