The build up is about to pay off in a big way.
The Kauai Historical Society’s 100 anniversary celebration is set to kick off Saturday.
But starting today, there are some other events worth checking out leading up to the monumental day.
At 10 this morning, The Mokihana Club, which supports scholarships for music and nursing students, is co-hosting a tea and coffee hour with KHS at the Lihue Parish Hall.
After sipping to your heart’s content, stick around to watch a play written by David Scott titled “The Last Word” about the founding of the society 100 years ago.
On Friday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Portuguese Genealogical and Historical Society of Hawaii will have representatives and computers to help people research their families who came from Portugal the Historic County Building.
Bring photos and as much information as you can to make digging easier.
OK, now for the big event.
Saturday’s celebration runs from 4 to 9 p.m. on the lawn of the Old County Building in Lihue and will feature displays, dancing and highlight the cultures that have shaped Kauai. Tours will be available, too.
Plenty of food will be on hand. No dish will cost more than $6 and most will $1-2 so that people will try different foods from different cultures.
Sound fun?
You bet. And better still, the event is free.
Now go celebrate, Kauai.
You deserve it.
