Please help reverend fighting cancer
Aloha, Hawaiian music lovers. Some of you may not already know that our most prolific living composer, extraordinary musician and singer, Rev. Dennis Kamakahi, is fighting cancer.
Dennis gave us the gift of his song “Kokee.” A fund has been created to offset medical expenses. Donations can be given through any branch of the Bank of Hawaii.

Not the last time for ‘eco-terrorist’
Regarding the letter (TGI, April 25) about “eco-terrorists.” As I recall, the paper was only quoting the outrageous statement of one of the attorneys for the chemical companies that are suing the county over Ordinance 960.
What will they call us when we get charter amendment #33 passed in November? This will regulate the spraying, pollen and dust that contaminates the land, water and air of our pristine county.
Everybody should sign the petition to get it on the ballot in November, so everybody has a chance to vote on what the chemical companies are doing. Check it out at “kauairising.org”

Potholes a major distraction for drivers
There are so many distractions that drivers face while driving. The biggest distraction today is cellular phone use and texting. There are other distractions also, such as eating, drinking, changing radio stations and so on while driving. There is another distraction that is on our highways. It is called potholes. There are so many potholes on our highways that distract drivers. We try to dodge these potholes when we see them.
Most of the time, it’s hard to dodge potholes and when one drives through a pothole, it causes steering loss.
Since we are granted $1.2 billion for roads by the federal government, start repaving our highways and get these problem fixed.
Let’s not just slowly eat away on this money for our highways, and do not use it elsewhere. Do it for the safety of us and our visitors on the highways (Kaumualii and Kuhio) especially the stretch in Lihue from McDonald’s to Walmart.
