LIHUE — A visitor who drowned while snorkeling off Haena Beach Park on April 16 was identified as 65-year-old Gayle Kelly of Washington state, according to a statement from the Kauai Police Department Tuesday.
Kelly died after getting caught in a current while snorkeling with two other swimmers. Lifeguards responded on rescue boards and a jet ski but could not resuscitate the victim.
A companion adult and child snorklers were able to make it to safety after the current pulled them out to deep water.
Kelly was Kauai’s second drowning of 2014.
