LIHUE — The East Kauai Lions Club donated $500 to the Lihue Pinto All Stars Thursday.
“We know how much it costs to get teams to the Outer Islands,” said Kelvin Moniz of the EK Lions Scholarship Committee. “We know these young people will represent Kauai well when they participate in their tournaments.”
Jason Apilado, head coach of the Pinto All Stars, said the team is seeking help to get players to two off-island tournaments.
Chris Simon, a Pinto All Star coach, presented Moniz with two luau tickets as a token of the team’s appreciation.
“These are a gift from the team,” Simon said.
The fundraising luau will be 5 to 10 p.m. May 2 at the Kalapaki Joe’s Waimea. There will be music by Jonathan Rivera Duo, Wally Rita and Los Kauaianos.
Tickets are $25 from any Pinto All Star player, or by calling 651-9498, or Simon at 652-6725. Tickets will also be available at the door on May 2 for $30. Keiki 8 years old and under are free.
