LIHUE — Grand slams from Saecha Padasdao-Oyamot and Taylor Lazaro led Waimea to a 25-9 win over Kauai at the Isenberg Park on Wednesday.
Waimea shortstop Sienna Santiago added a triple, single and knocked in four runs, while third baseman Alyssa Miyamoto had a single and also drove in four runs.
Oyamot gave the Menehune a 5-1 lead with her home run with the bases loaded in the first inning.
The Red Raiders answered with a 2-run single from pitcher Aleigha “Red” Scovel in the second inning. A solo home run to centerfield from catcher Tammie Yoshimori pulled Kauai to within 5-4 after three innings.
But the Menehune exploded for nine runs on three hits in the fifth and added 10 more runs in the sixth.
Kauai answered with a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough.
Scovel finished with a pair of singles with two RBI, Railee Layosa ended with a pair of singles with two RBI, and Mahealani Hirokane added a single and two RBI.
Waimea faces Kapaa High School in a double-header at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Raiders host the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
