LIHUE — A Lihue man was rescued while picking opihi in Moloaa on Sunday morning.
Kauai Fire Department reported that responders from the Kaiakea station were sent on a distress call about 10:15 a.m. A 53-year-old Lihue man fell on the rocks of the shoreline in an area behind the Moloaa Fruit Stand.
Hampered by the remote location and difficult terrain, firefighters requested an air evacuation. Rescue 3 responded aboard the county helicopter Air 1. Firefighters were able to reach the victim, who was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and later released.
