Masami Kouchi thinks he can cook, said Jill Kouchi who had samples of poi and taro pancake batter Hawaiian red hot dogs during the First Saturday event.
Kenny Miyoshi just came home from Japan, but was able to join Calvin Fukushima and the Masa’s Shave Ice ohana in offering the Hawaiian plate featuring akule (you could smell it frying all over town), opihi, pickled onion and freshly-pounded poi (Kenny said it was still warm) with Jill’s nephew, Seiji Yotsuda doing the sign which sat next to the kabobs which Brian Fujiuchi got for MaBel’s dinner.
The excitement of First Saturday is gone, but Lani Kawahara of the Kapaa Public Library said there will be a free program, “The Insect World,” at 3 p.m. Monday featuring a special presentation from the UH Insect Museum about insect biodiversity and conservation.
Gary Pacheco and the North Shore Lions remind people that Sunday is the annual Hula and Pancakes event at the Hanalei School cafeteria starting at 7 a.m. with Gary’s pancake grill already warming up for his specials.
