LIHUE — The investigator responsible for tracking down a bank robbery suspect was honored by the Kauai Police Commission at its meeting on Friday.
Detective Kenneth Cummings of the KPD Investigative Services Bureau was recognized as the Officer of the Month in part for his work as lead investigator on a robbery at the Kapaa Bank of Hawaii on Jan. 28.
Cummings was honored for his “dedication to tracking down witnesses, talking to as many people as he could, gathering information and doing all the right things” that led to an apprehension and arrest within 12 hours with evidence to build a strong case
Joshua Carlsen, 36, of Kapaa, was charged with the first-degree robbery and remains in custody at Kauai Community Correction Center on $250,000 bail.
“Quick action by KPD’s detectives and patrol officers, under Det. Cummings’ leadership, led to a timely arrest of the suspect in this case,” said Assistant Chief of the Investigative Services Bureau Roy Asher.
“The suspect’s arrest brought a much-needed sense of closure for the victims of the crime and the community, including nearby schools, homes and businesses.”
