LIHUE — The Hawaii Children’s Theatre will have an opportunity to sparkle this summer in the upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Harold Hensley volunteered with the children’s theater group last summer building sets and working on the stage crew.
This season, as the administrative support person for the Hawaii Children’s Theatre summer school, Hensley is coordinating all the pieces of the nonprofit school’s upcoming five-week program. Registration is open for morning workshops for the Little Stars Keiki Program from June 9 through July 10. The 8 a.m. to noon classes in dance, voice and theatre are being offered for kids 5 to 7 years old.
Also offered at the same time is the drama workshop for 8 to 16 year olds. Both classes culminate in gala performances at Kauai Community College on July 10 for keikis and July 11 for older students. Classes run Monday through Friday.
Registration for an afternoon session is open for students wanting to perform in the young performer’s edition of “The Wizard of Oz.” Rehearsals will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Class size is limited and financial aid is available. Performances will be open to the public July 11-13.
The class is at the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse, 4411 Kikowaena Street, Lihue.
