Auntie Louise got everyone to pitch in
When I saw the article on Mr. Butler’s fine and heroic actions during flooding in Hanalei, I was pleased to see that regular citizens were being lauded for their acts of kindness and caring during disasters.
But, of course, with me always being interested in educating and informing about Kauai’s history whenever I can, I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the first person to actually take care of people during flooding. It was something that the whole town actually did, before, and the people who were involved were almost exclusively locals and native Hawaiians born and raised right there in the Halalea District.
The woman who spearheaded all of this was Auntie Louise Marston, the owner of the original Tahiti Nui Restaurant, bar, and luau and dance club.
She would use cots and equipment given to her after Hurricane Iwa and we would all get word through the coconut wireless. We would go, help her to open up the cots, and set things out, and then others would come and entertain with music, others would bring food and make it a potluck and we would all have a great time.
The visitors were always so stunned that such an amazing welcome was waiting for them, and more times then not, spending the night stranded in Hanalei never meant that you would go without a hot meal or a warm place to sleep.
Aunty Louise got the whole community to pitch in. I will never forget those days.

Pono Choices bad fit for schools
The headline of TGI on March 2 was of Dely Sasaki, a health department school nurse and manager of all the nursing programs on Kauai. She said she was “appalled at the decision to teach middle school (11-year-olds) the Pono Choices sex ed program.” (I’m sure Planned Parenthood is a part of this sex promoting of our children).
Our children will be taught explicit sex acts, including transgender sex, gay and lesbian sex, anal and oral sex! Not too long ago it was called hard porn and you would be arrested for indecent exposure!
What I find more appalling is that Obama chose Kevin Jennings — founder of the GLSEN, a gay and lesbian organization — to be the government school “safe guard czar.” Mr. Jennings has a very perverted past with teens, too inappropriate to be mentioned.
Hawaii is high on the nation’s list for teen pregnancies, STDs, drug abuse and suicide. Our government’s solution is to teach sexual practices to hormone driven adolescents, forcing them to deal with issues that will take away any innocence or family values.
Parents need to be assured that our schools will protect and keep our children’s bodies and minds safe from violence and perversion. It’s time to vote all these corrupt politicians out and choose men and women of integrity who will respect and honor our children. It’s time to get the government out of our schools and place it back into the hands of the teachers, parents and local communities.
If the schools did away with all this sexual indoctrination and psychological behavior manipulation, we would not have to extend our school hours to fit all the government’s agendas.

Government rewards abuse
In response to TGI story March 20 “Crowd gathers for free rides,” my entire family have always believed in helping people of need whenever possible. I’m talking about people who were born with disabilities or have become disabled in such a way that they cannot function in our society without our help. Bless all of their hearts.
Today in our society, we read about our government and how they reward those who are substance abusers and alcoholics to no fault but their own. Thank goodness for all of the phony Obama stimulus money that our grandchildren will have to pay back someday.
This is about our growing society of abusers and how people can get government to pay their way to live while others must work sometimes two jobs in order to survive in one of the highest costs of living in the nation. When I read a person who’s talking about their free bus pass say, “this is really good,” “I need a new one because mine is good until the end of the month,” “I use it to get around — buy food, look for a job, visit the parole office, and attend substance abuse classes.”
Another person says “This is Kauai. You need a bus pass to get around if you don’t have a car.” He also says another person was scheduled to pass out “free cell phones” as well. No wonder it costs the working population what it does to make ends meet today.
