HANAPEPE – The Menehune scored five runs in the second inning Wednesday en route to defeating Kapaa 8-3 at Hanapepe Stadium.
Before Waimea’s offensive surge in the second inning, Kapaa shortstop Nakoa Ibaan hit a 3-run homer to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
“They just came back and kept on fighting,” said Waimea head coach Larry Ephan. “I guess the game took care of itself. Both teams got a little bit spunky at one point. Fortunately, our kids rose up to the occasion and kept on taking advantage of every mistake Kapaa made.”
Ibaan also hit a double in the game.
Waimea catcher Brock Tacata had two hits and two RBIs.
The game ended after two outs and two runners on base during the top of the seventh inning because of loss of daylight.
Kapaa (1-3) will play a doubleheader at home on Saturday against Kauai High School.
The first game will begin at 10 a.m.
Waimea (3-2) will play Kauai on Wednesday at Vidinha Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
