Kapaa Middle School’s Choir and Ukulele Band celebrated their 14th year of travel and their seventh Double Gold.
Directed by Mary Lardizabal and co-directed by Loke Sasil, the award-winning choir and ukulele band represented the island at the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, Calif., on March 15. There were 19 choirs from across the nation participating and more than 2,000 students. Sixth grader, Alexxius Cypher, daughter of Kapua and Jared Raquel, received the inspirational award “Stand Strong.” This award was presented by the Heritage and Disney representatives.
The busy week’s schedule included fellowship with the Hawaiian Civic’s Club from West Minster, Disneyland and California Adventure Parks, Medieval Times Dinner Show, Knott’s Berry Farm and a musical “Harmony.”
The choir and ukulele band had about 25 performances and continue to perform throughout the community. Private sponsors also donated to the choir and ukulele band.
