The Hawaii Small Business Development Center has moved from its location on the Kauai Community College campus to new facilities in the Lihue Plantation Building in the heart of Lihue, 2970 Kele St., Suite 101, just in back of the post office on Rice St.
In case you didn’t know, Lihue has turned into “Kauai Business Central.” Within a half mile, you can find the main offices for Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank, America Savings and Central Pacific Bank, government services such as the County Offices of Economic Development (which in turn manages the Kauai Grown and Kauai Made programs), Planning and Parks and Recreation, the state departments of health (including environmental services) and taxation, business support services such as the Kauai Chamber of Commerce, the Kauai Economic Development Board, Kauai Visitors Bureau and the Hawaii Small Business Development Center.
Interested in ag projects? Kauai Business Central is host to the U.S. Department of Ag’s Rural Development programs, the Farm Service Agency, Garden Isle Resource Conservation and Development and UH extension services. Workforce issues and needs? Workwise (state Department of Labor) and the state Department of Vocational Rehabilitation are right here.
The HSBDC continues with its mission to support start up and existing businesses through one-on-one consulting on everything from business plans to financial projections to preparing job description and research on behalf of our clients (industry reports and competitor analyses in addition to researching data related to the market for products and services).
We also provide our “Starting a Business on Kauai” workshop on a regular basis with upcoming workshops 9 a.m. to noon April 29 and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 22. In addition to that workshop, we will also be hosting “Marketing to the Government and Capability Statements” from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be put on by the Hawaii Procurement and Technical Assistance Center, a fantastic resource for those interested in federal, state and county contracting and procurement.
We’re pleased to be part of the mix of services available to support new and existing businesses. For additional information, go to our website, www.hisbdc.org or call us at 242-3148.
