The Waimea High School boys tennis team swept its matches over Kauai Saturday at the Waimea tennis courts.
Led by the Menehune duo of Lani Rae Green and Diane Gawaran on the girls doubles court, Waimea girls took its series, 3-2 over Kauai High School.
Bradley Cano and Chris Corpuz controlled the boys singles courts for Waimea, Cano defeating Red Raider Francis Perez, 6-1, 6-3 on the boys first singles court and Corpuz downing Ricky Oshita, 6-1, 6-3 in the boys second singles match.
On the boys doubles court, Menehune first doubles Bradly Lumabao team with Marcus Pereira to defeat the Kauai team of Byeong Lee and Mitchel Evans, 6-4, 7-6(8-6).
Gilson Guillermo paired with Patrick Cowell on the boys second doubles court to get past the Kauai team of Clinton Sibolboro and Reggie Mones, 6-4, 6-3.
Waimea’s Riley Saiki teamed with Marc Serapio to defeat the Kauai team of Joshua Agpaoa and Koa Cierras, 6-2, 6-1 on the boys third doubles court.
Kauai’s Tarryn Orial rebounded from her loss to Kapaa during the Wednesday make-up game to edge out Waimea’s Shay Jim, 6-4, 7(5-7)-6 on the girls first singles court.
The Red Raiders also controlled the girls second singles when Danika Thompson defeated Menehune Kylah Gruspe, 6-1, 6-3.
Waimea controlled the girls doubles court, led by the pair of Green and Gawaran taking out Kauai’s Stefanie Gushikuma and Tori Pagador, 6-1, 6-0.
On the girls second doubles court, Waimea’s Rhea Arios paired with Julia Hirano to defeat Kauai’s Madison Rayno and Teyanni Esaki, 6-0, 6-3.
Hope Coyaso and Rochelle Dela Cruz gave Waimea its edge on the girls court when the pair edged out the Kauai duo of Rachel Marshall and Tailee Tangonan, 6-7(2-7), 6-0,7-5 in the girls third doubles match.
KIF tennis takes a break until March 29 when Waimea hosts Kapaa at the Waimea courts and Kauai host Island School at the Kauai Lagoons tennis courts. Both matches start at 10 a.m.
