KILAUEA – Kauai police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred in Kilauea Sunday afternoon.
Kaleo Martin, age 32 of Kilauea, was arrested for Attempted Murder Sunday night. He is currently being held in Police Cellblock in lieu of $500,000 bail.
At approximately 3 p.m., officers responded to a call of a male subject who had been shot in the arm at Martin’s home on Kilauea Road. Upon arriving to the scene, officers located the 36-year-old male victim, also of Kilauea. He appeared to have sustained one gunshot wound to his arm.
The victim identified the suspect to police before he was transported by Medics to Wilcox Hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital later that evening.
Police received information at the scene that Martin, still armed, may have barricaded himself in a shed on the property. As a safety precaution, officers set up a perimeter around Martin’s home and closed off Kilauea Road to pedestrians and vehicles, from Titcomb Street to Kahili Quarry Road, while awaiting the arrival of the Special Services Team (SST) and crisis negotiators.
Members of the SST then cleared the property, which consisted of multiple dwellings, of any threat and confirmed that the suspect had fled the scene prior to KPD’s arrival.
Investigators then received information on the suspect’s whereabouts. Crisis negotiators were able to make contact with Martin and secured his surrender without incident.
He was arrested at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at a private property in Kilauea.
