KOLOA — A kickball tournament to support a leukemia victim will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Koloa Ball Park.
Dionne Teves, organizer, said there are 300 players, comprising 20 teams, registered to compete.
“We got the idea after reading The Garden Island story, ‘Facing illness, forever hopeful’ regarding Malina Pereza,” Teves said.
All donations to play or from spectators will go to benefit Malina Pereza, 26, of Puhi, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia type M4 in January. She is married with a 3-year-old daughter.
Pereza is at Stanford Hospital in California to undergo a stem cell transplant from her brother with hopes of doubling her chances of surviving the illness. She works two part-time jobs and faces insurmountable medical bills as an uninsured patient.
