KALAHEO — Teagan Keep fired off 10 points and Monique Lorenzo and Dawn Serapio each poured in eight points to lead Kaulupono Division 3 girls to a 45-22 win over the Team Lihue Girls Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Playing in the county’s Division 3 seventh and eighth grade youth basketball spring league, Roycie Faye added six points, Apryl Grande had five points, D’annalyn Helgen ended with four points and Kaye Serapio had a pair in the win.
Despite trailing 27-7 at the break, Cierra Tanicala managed to ignite the crowd into cheer, launching three second-half bombs from outside the three-point arc. Tanicala finished with a game-high 16 points, including her trio of treys.
Marissa Layosa contributed six points, including a fourth period three and a pair from Rebekah Corpuz rounded out the effort.
Joel Soriano netted 12 points and Denaz Haley added 11 points to keep the Westside Basketball squad ahead of Team Central 39-35.
Limited to just four players tickling the twine for scores, D.J. Pabre finished with 10 points and Bulla Farias fired off a three-ball and a bucket for five points.
Team Central battled for all of its points, led by Braden simao who finished with nine points and Kurtis Fujito-Pascua adding seven points on a pair launched from outside the three-point mark. Jaron Ruiz-Acantilado finished with five points before fouling out in the final 13 seconds, and Kaulu Rittmeister, the low post, ended with four second-half points.
Kaimani Tecson put away a trey before fouling out with 3:50 showing, but his value was on both sides of the ball, grabbing rebounds in traffic and moving the ball down court to feed the inside.
Justin Failey was held to just a digit by the bigger and taller Westside boys.
Guard Taylon Yadao, hounded by Team Central B’s Aiden Offley, finished with a game-high 15 points to lead the Papalina BC B team to a 44-24 win over the Team Central B team.
Jaykob Nakaahiki-Young added 10 points with Trey Taba and Ryan Banasihan each added six points.
Gunnar Burkman, effective against guarding Team Central B’s Michael Angelo Dasalla, finished with five points.
Dasalla topped the Team Central B scoring with a game-high 18 points followed by pairs from Marcus Charles, Offley and Travis Duran.
Three games are on tap starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when Team Lihue B squares off against the Kaulupono boys followed by the Team Lihue A going up against Westside Basketball at 11 a.m. Hanakila, a team made up of boys from primarily the Hanalei and Kilauea area, will tip off against the Hanapepe Bomb Squad at noon.
