When there’s a house fire and someone needs help, the American Red Cross responds. When there’s an emergency and shelter is needed, it’s the Red Cross that steps in. When the Hanalei Bridge is closed due to high waters, it’s the Red Cross that sets up quarters at the school so folks have a place to sleep. It’s a comfort to those in trouble to know they won’t be on their own when the unexpected arises.
That’s why we support the Hawaii chapter led by director Keri Russell and want to highlight an easy way to help fund this valuable organization through the March Red Cross Restaurant Campaign. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on the generosity of people on Kauai to provide programs and services on the island.
Here’s how we can help.
Throughout March, a number of restaurants have agreed to donate part of their proceeds to the Red Cross. It doesn’t get much easier than that to support a nonprofit that’s so critical during emergencies. All you have to do, really, is eat and the Red Cross benefits.
Here’s a list of participating restaurants and how to contact them:
• Makana Terrace, St. Regis Princeville Resort. Reservations and ask for “Table 53”; portion of proceeds donated, 826-2746
• Rum Fire, Sheraton Kauai Resort, all net food & beverage for Table 53 will be donated, 742-1661
• Wahooo Seafood Grill & Bar, $1 donation made for every tableside Caesar salad ordered, 822-7833
• Hookipa Cafe, Puakea Golf Course, $1 donation made for any hamburger ordered between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., 246-4555
• Hukilau Lanai, $1 donation for every tasting menu sold, 822-0600
• Tidepools, Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, $1 donation for every crab cake appetizer purchased, 240-6456
• Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza, $1 donation from the sale of each large pizza, up to $250, 828-2020
If you’re not hungry, there are other ways to pitch in for the American Red Cross. You can register to become a volunteer or make a donation by calling 739-8133. Whatever you decide to do, it is much appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for supporting the Red Cross.
