The Poipu Beach Resort Association is a member-based organization of businesses located primarily in the Koloa-Poipu region. The organization’s primary mission is to market Kauai’s South Shore as a world-class visitor destination and to provide for the future of Poipu as a great place to live, work, visit and do business.
The PBRA celebrated the success of 2013 and promise of 2014 through its annual New Year’s Eve music festival and fireworks celebration at Poipu Beach Park. In partnership with its major sponsor Kalapaki Joe’s and many, many others, the event featured live, local entertainment, good food and a spectacular display of fireworks. Over 4,000 people gathered oceanside for the event.
Mid-December, the PBRA, along with Roberts Hawaii, launched a 10-week Beta test of intra-Poipu shuttle. The shuttle operated Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on a 30-minute schedule providing guests with an alternative mode of transportation in and around the Poipu area.
In February, through a partnership with the County of Kauai, the beach nourishment project at Poipu Beach Park was completed. Nearly 500 cubic yards of sand was placed above the high water mark near the lifeguard stand for the safety of beach goers and to repair beach erosion.
For long-term beach nourishment efforts, a study of the Poipu shoreline was conducted and recently completed by sea Engineering. The report will be made available for public review by the County of Kauai later this year.
The study was made possible through the generosity of the County of Kauai, the Hawaii Tourism Authority and members of the Poipu Beach Resort Association.
On the horizon for the PBRA is continued partnerships with the County of Kauai on park improvements and continued restoration of our beaches. We will welcome the Koloa plantation Days celebration in July with the annual Maluhia (Tree Tunnel) cleanup and perhaps another signature event of the festival at Poipu Beach Park.
PBRA is focused on keeping Poipu a special place for our kamaaina and malahini. Follow us at www.facebook.com/PoipuBeachKauai.
