LIHUE — Each year, for nearly 20 years, Rotary Club of Poipu Beach members and their supporters have come together for a night of wine, music and food.
It is a combination that translates into one fine evening, said Rotary Club of Poipu Beach Club administrator Joe McEvoy, who is in charge of the event scheduled 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kilohana Luau Pavilion.
“It’s about music, food, wine, silent auction and artists — we have an artist colony this year and we had one last year,” McEvoy said. “It’s kind of all about everything that comes together in one fine evening.”
A constant over those years, McEvoy said, has been the group’s mission to raise money for the Rotary Club’s philanthropic causes.
“Everything basically goes back into the community,” McEvoy said. “Nobody at the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach gets paid a dime — we’re all volunteers.”
The organization raised about $22,000 last year before the event’s food, wine and venue costs were paid off. This year, McEvoy said the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach is hoping to sell 600 event tickets, at $50 each, and raise $25,000.
Tickets can be purchased at Scotty’s Music in Kalaheo, The Wine Shop in Koloa, Makai Properties in Poipu, Ultimate Nails in Waimea, Kmart in Lihue, Jim Saylor Jewelers in Kapaa or Harvest Mart Hanalei. Info: www.poipurotary.org
