Kauai High School is unseeded entering the Hawaiian Airlines Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II boys basketball state championship.
The Kauai Interscholastic Federation champions open the eight-team Division II competition Thursday starting at 5 p.m. at the Kalani High School gym on Oahu against the No. 4 seed Kohala of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, stated an announcement by the HHSAA Monday night.
A win in the quarterfinals will move the Kauai Red Raiders to face the winner of the Division II top seed, St. Francis, and Kalani, who will play Thursday night in a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Kalani gym.
The No. 2 seed is the Kaiser Cougars with Seabury Hall getting the No. 3 seed.
Other teams participating in the Division II bracket include the Hawaii Preparatory Academy of the BIIF and Damien Memorial School.
Iolani High School gets the top seed in Division I, stated the HHSAA in a Sunday announcement.
The Iolani Red Raiders face the winner of unseeded Lahainaluna and Kalaheo, who face each other Wednesday in the 12-team Division I bracket.
Farrington High School earns the No. 2 seed in Division I, followed by Baldwin of the MIL getting the No. 3 seed and Konawaena of the BIIF getting the No. 4 seed.
Other teams participating in the Division I bracket include Campbell, Leilehua, Waiakea, Mililani, Maryknoll and Moanalua.
The championship game for Division II is on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center on Oahu, followed by the title game for Division I starting at 7 p.m.
