LIHUE — A 19-year-old Wailua man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly entered a truck at Kealia Beach and stole the owner’s wallet.
According to a county news release, Kauai police officers arrested Kaiolohia Youn for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. He was released on $2,000 bail Monday.
According to police, the incident occurred about noon when a Nissan pickup truck got stuck in the sand on the north end of Kealia Beach. The 23-year-old female driver of the pickup was being assisted by several beachgoers, who were attempting to tow the truck out of the sand.
Youn offered to assist the driver. He then entered the truck without permission and began driving it recklessly down the beach until eventually returning the truck to the owner, according to police.
The vehicle owner noticed that her wallet was missing from the front seat. She attempted to question Youn, who fled the scene in a blue Toyota Tacoma.
With a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle, police located Youn and his truck at Kapahi Park within an hour of the incident. He was arrested and taken into custody. Officers returned the victim’s stolen wallet.
