With just one Kauai Interscholastic Federation wrestling match remaining before the KIF wrestling championships, Coach Mac Pigott, the KIF tournament director, released rankings of the KIF wrestlers.
The rankings come right before the final match before the championships at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Island School gym.
On the girls’ arena, Kaisa Ishikawa, Sanoe Kalama and Jessica Dinnie are ranked at the top of their respective eligible weight classes.
Ishikawa is ranked No. 1 in the Girls 97 pound class and the Girls 101 pound class, followed by Anna Marie Lopez in the No. 2 spot.
Devin Kilar Johnson is ranked tops in the Girls 140 pound weight class.
Kalama is ranked tops in the Girls 113 pound class and the Girls 121 pound class, followed by Courtney Brock, topping the Girls 113 pound class, in the No. 2 spot for the Girls 117 pound class.
Nika Tapucol holds the No. 2 spot in the Girls 121 pound class.
Dinnie is rated No. 1 in the Girls 155 pound class and the Girls 175 pound class, followed by Kalea McGum getting the No. 2 spot in the Girls 115 pound class and Kalelei Rogers getting the No. 2 spot in the Girls 175 pound class. McGum is rated No. 3 in the Girls 175 pound class.
Pigott said on the boys’ mat, Kristopher Alcos, Nicholas Gabriel, Kala Dusenberry Lee and Charlie “CJ” Kahepuu ranked first at either of their eligible weight classes.
“The weight classes between 138 pounds and 152 pounds are very competitive,” Pigott said. “A lot depends on which of the two eligible weight classes the wrestlers enter, and how they feel and perform at the KIF championships.”
Pigott said he also expects the boys 220 and 285 pound weight classes to be very competitive.
Alexio Padasdao is the sole wrestler ranked in the boys 106 pound weight class, and is ranked No. 2 in the boys 113 pound class, a division where Alcos gets the No. 1 spot.
Alcos also tops the boys 120 pound weight class followed by Jamin Lopez in the No. 2 spot.
Mitchell Alves holds the sole spot in the boys 126 pound weight class.
Bryson Yoro takes the No. 1 spot in the boys 132 pound class followed by Elia Leone. Yoro also earns eligibility in the No. 4 spot of the Boys 138 pound class, Madison Leanio taking the top spot in that class.
Following Leanio, currently undefeated with a 4-0 record, Nikolay Cariffe holds the No. 2 spot followed by Ronnie Perono in No. 3, Yoro, and Elia Leone in the No. 5 spot. Zach Baydoun is ranked No. 6 in the Boys 138 pound weight class.
Leanio holds the No. 2 spot in the boys 145 pound weight class, the division being led by Nicholas Gabriel in the top spot, followed by Michael Gabriel ranked No. 3, Cariffe getting the No. 4 nod, Perono in the No. 5 spot, Faa Tafua in the No. 6, Kainalu Gandia in the No. 7, David Caminos in No. 8, John Kahananui in the No. 9, Austin Cook in the No. 10 spot and Baydoun rounding out the class in No. 11.
Nicholas and Michael Gabriel lead the boys 152 pound weight class, Nicholas getting the No. 1 followed by Michael in No. 2. Tafua gets the No. 3 spot followed by Gandia, Caminos, Kahananui and Cook.
Kala Dusenberry Lee tops the boys 160 pound weight class followed by Javan Torres in the No. 2 spot followed by Andrew Evans in No. 3 and Raycyn Aviguetero in the No. 4 spot.
Dusenberry Lee also ranks No. 1 in the boys 170 pound weight class followed by Torres, Jeremy Manibog in No. 3, Evans, Aviguetero, and Josiah Alvarez in the No. 6 spot.
Kahepuu, missing the action last week due to an injury, tops the boys 182 pound weight class followed by Manibog and Alvarez.
Kahepuu also tops the boys 195 class followed by Ian Garcia in No. 2 followed by Hanale Reynolds in the No. 3 spot.
Garcia gets the nod for No. 1 in the boys 220 pound weight class followed by Reynolds in the No. 2 spot, Kohana Rapozo in the No. 3 spot, Zeb Martinez in the No. 4 slot, and Patelo Paseka in the No. 5 spot.
Rapozo soars to the No. 1 spot in the Boys 285 pound weight class followed by Martinez, Paseka and Abe Rivera in the No. 4 position.
