Is GMO experimenting safe?
The answer is emphatically no! Here’s why. If it is as safe as the GMO people tell us, then why don’t they do all their experimenting on the Mainland, where the cost of business is far cheaper than Hawaii? They could save millions. The reason is they know full well GMO experimenting is extremely dangerous. They know they could create a Frankenstein and the pollen from it could be blown for hundreds of miles on the Mainland, infecting billions of dollars’ worth of existing crops, and they would clearly be liable for damages.
So by coming to Hawaii and spending millions of extra dollars buying and leasing land and paying all their scientists and staff travel and housing expenses to relocate here, along with all their equipment, they avoid the possibility of infected pollen spreading on the Mainland. Instead, they risk the health of the people and agricultural crops of Hawaii, which in their financial way of thinking, is far less of a liability.
So next time you hear the GMO people say GMO experimenting is safe, ask them if it is so safe, then why don’t they do their experimenting on the Mainland and save money.

Walt saves day for man with lost wallet
My wife and I are visiting Kauai from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and I had the misfortune Monday of leaving my wallet on the counter of an unmanned fruit stand while on the way to golf at Kukuiolono golf course. On arrival at the course, I discovered the wallet was missing and quickly determined that it must have been left at the fruit stand, where I purchased a bunch of bananas. We quickly returned to the fruit stand, but the wallet was not to be found. I asked a nearby person, who turned out to be the farm owner, if he knew anything about it. He pointed me to a vehicle parked on the side of the road and said I should ask the occupant, who had spent some time in the fruit stand. I approached the man in the vehicle and he asked me for my name. I gave it to him, and much to my delight, he produced my wallet, contents completely intact. It turns out that this gentleman had telephoned my daughter in Saskatchewan, who, in turn, had called my wife at the condo, and while I was talking to the gentleman, his phone rang and it was my wife calling to see if I had returned. The gentleman, whose name is Walt and who is from Oregon, was prepared to wait on the roadside until someone showed up to claim the wallet. Thanks to the honesty and patience of this wonderful gentleman and to the miracle of modern communications. A mishap which would have seriously hampered our vacation was avoided. My most sincere thanks to the gentleman from Oregon and to all who would act in a similar fashion.

Companies have right to file suit
In response to a letter from Anna Nimatee published Jan. 15 in The Garden Island:
Her letter states that agribusiness companies are not being good neighbors because they are suing the County of Kauai after Bill 2491 became law.
Let me begin with the good neighbor policy, which the anti-GMO group wants everyone to aspire to: By stating that these agribusinesses aren’t good neighbors, I am guessing that your anti-GMO group sees themselves as the best neighbors ever? By spray painting the roads, threatening individuals and public officials, slandering individuals and using derogatory statements about all of this on social media, I am supposed to believe that your group is good neighbors? You can deny that your group has done these things, but once you put it out on the Internet, it is there forever.
We know that you are scared that your beloved, unjust law won’t stand up in a court of law. As well you should be. Because unlike the Kauai County Council, a true court will not stand for hearsay, innuendo, pseudoscience or scare tactics.
Lastly, all seed companies are in competition with each other to grow the best product and will not divulge information to their competitors. Would you bury millions of dollars and then tell everyone where you buried it?
Anyone who condemns anyone for standing up for their rights to due process under the law spits on the Constitution.
