MANA — Last year was a record year for Manu Kai employees, a Pacific Missile Range Facility contractor.
“This is the fifth year Manu Kai employees have been collecting food during their holiday food drive,” James Ekan, Manu Kai program manager, said Thursday. “And this year is a record year with more than $2,900 in cash and food collected.”
Kelvin Moniz, Kauai Independent Food Bank executive director, brought Brandan Nakamoto, a KIFB board member, to the PMRF facility to accept the contribution from Manu Kai.
“The generosity of our community to those in need never ceases to amaze me,” Moniz said. “Unprecedented demand continues to challenge the community, and without the help of our friends, families, neighbors and businesses, we would not have been able to respond to the 153,000 requests for food through our different programs.”
