Darrellyn Lemke, president of the Zonta Club of Kauai, invites people to enjoy her club’s event because “life is uncertain, eat dessert first.”
The 21st annual Eat Dessert First comes ahead of Valentine’s Day and allows guests to indulge in the sweetness and goodness of desserts and shop for a special “Valentine gift for their Sweetie,” while helping a community organization help the community. It will be held Feb. 7 at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Jasmine Ballroom.
“Come and enjoy an evening with live contemporary Hawaiian music by Cruz Control, fabulous prize drawings, and a huge silent auction where everyone is sure to find that special Valentine gift for their sweetie,” Lemke said in a Zonta Club release.
The silent auction includes hotel stays, dining certificates, jewelry and ziplining.
The array of desserts are donated by many of Kauai’s restaurants and chefs as well as homemade creations by friends and families of the Zonta Club of Kauai.
Kauai Coffee Co. will provide hot beverages, along with contributions from The Right Slice, Hukilau Lanai Kauai, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and the Regency at Puakea.
The popular chocolate fountain with Belgium Chocolate from Kauai Chocolate Co. will be accompanied with strawberries for dipping.
A no-host bar will be available.
Tickets for Eat Dessert First are $25 in advance and are available from the Deja Vu Surf Outlet in Kapaa town, Hairmates on Akahi Street in Lihue, Island Hardware in the Princeville Shopping Center, Kalaheo Cafe & Coffee Co., Kauai Chocolate Co. at the Port Allen Marina in Eleele, Pictures Plus in the Kukui Grove Center, Specialty Balloons in Lihue, Savage Pearls in the Ching Young Village in Hanalei, The Wine Shop in Koloa, and Vicky’s Fabrics in Kapaa.
Proceeds will benefit the Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation scholarship program, which provides $1,000 scholarships to selected seniors from Kauai’s high schools, as well as for women re-entering the workforce by attending Kauai Community College.
With the aid of proceeds from Eat Dessert First, the Zonta Club of Kauai has presented $14,000 in scholarships to young women on Kauai.
