LIHUE — A Kapaa man was arrested in connection to the Bank of Hawaii-Kapaa branch robbery on Wednesday.
Joshua Carlsen, 36, was taken into custody Wednesday night on charges of first-degree robbery. He is being held at Kauai Police cell block with bail set at $100,000.
The robbery occurred around 12:50 p.m. A man passed a bank teller a note stating he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot with the note and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Shortly after the robbery, police received a tip the suspect may have been seen near Hauaala Road in Kapaa. A search turned up no sign of the suspect.
Officers and detectives continued the search into the night, questioning bystanders and residents in the Kapaa area. About 10:30 p.m. two people told officers they recognized the suspect in the surveillance photos.
Carlsen was arrested at his home on Hauaala Road shortly after midnight.
