There are many already “sold,” said Susan Pittman of The Clayworks at Kilohana. There are many more available.
“We will probably do one more load before Souper Bowl Sunday,” Pittman said. “Hopefully, we can have enough done to get 200 donations.”
Souper Bowl Sunday is hosted by the Clayworks at Kilohana as it has been for the past 18 years.
It’s set for 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Feb. 2 — ample time to enjoy a helping of soup in the studio’s backyard garden seating area, or pick up for a National Football League Super Bowl party elsewhere.
Soup and hand-thrown ceramic bowl enthusiasts donate $28, which benefits the Lihue Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies program.
“Our price has stayed the same for the past several years,” Pittman said. “If we can get 100 donations, I’d be ecstatic.”
In addition to the special hand-thrown soup bowl in a variety of colored glazes, donors receive a bowl of soup prepared especially for the event by Chef Todd Barrett of the Gaylord’s restaurant in the neighboring Kilohana estate.
“Because it’s a specially made soup, we won’t know what will be offered until just a few days before Feb. 2,” Pittman said. “People may also pick up their bowls from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Feb. 3-7. The bowls won’t have any soup to go along with them, though.”
People desiring a specific color or style of glazing are welcome to visit the Clayworks at Kilohana, where they are able to select their bowls to be set aside for Sunday.
“We have so many people who have supported us through the years,” Pittman said. “They must be building up a set of soup bowls.”
She said there is a person who requested a set of white soup bowls which will be done with this week’s load.
“We try to offer something new each year,” Pittman said. “This year, the reds (glazing) combination, purples, and the pastels are being sought after. We will be doing additional purples for this week’s load, too.”
