LIHUE — Sj Hylton LeHoven is excited to present her new radio play, “NOW Who Are You?”
The hour-long pilot will air live on Kauai’s Community Radio Station, KKCR, at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31 as part of DJ Tod Walker’s show “The Beatbox Time Machine.”
The live performance will take place at WIT’s End, Women in Theatre’s performance space, in the Coconut MarketPlace in Kapaa.
There will be three additional performances at WIT’s End on Feb. 1, Feb. 7 and Feb. 8. Each show begins at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and the audience is asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before each show.
Sj LeHoven wrote the radio play as a dare from a friend who had heard about a contest at the BBC. She completed the play and set it aside for over a year. A member of Kauai’s improvisational comedy troupe, the InsPirates, LeHoven invited her fellow actors to read her creation. As her friends were reading, she realized she had written the pilot episode for an on-going series.
The story takes place in a small town in Iowa where things are not what they seem. The quirky characters are on journeys of self-discovery which overlap in unexpected ways. Future episodes will explore the different characters and how their paths cross.
The cast is comprised of Nell Foster as Valerie, Emma Palumbo as Meghan, Bard Widmer as Tom, Bruce Fehring as Bob, Melissa Mojo at Elizabeth, Sj LeHoven as Inner Val with Tony LeHoven as the Chief Sound Effects Artist and Judah Freed as SFX Artist 2.
Sj LeHoven, who will also perform a five-minute stand-up before each show, intends to raise funds to write and produce at least nine more 30-minute episodes. Stay tuned to nowwhoareyou.com for future airing dates and to learn how you can contribute to this unique radio play.
