The Miss Hawaii USA and Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageants are coming to Kauai, hosting the inaugural Miss Kauai USA and Miss Kauai Teen USA pageant in April.
Alicia Michioka Jones, a graduate of Kapaa High School, is the executive director of the Miss Hawaii USA and Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageants.
“It is important to me to give the girls on the Neighbor islands the opportunity to compete on a local level and advance to the state pageant,” Michioka Jones said in an email. “I did this without a preliminary and I can only imagine the success our Kauai girls will have with proper guidance and training to help them be competitive.”
Michioka Jones won the Miss Hawaii USA title in 2003 and went on to place in the Top 10 at the Miss USA pageant.
The inaugural pageants are seeking girls between the ages of 19 through 26 years old for the Miss Kauai USA pageant which will be held April 26 and 27.
Girls between the ages of 14 through 18 years old are invited to participate in the Miss Kauai Teen USA pageant.
Participants will vie for the title in interview, swimsuit and evening gown phases. There is no talent phase and no platforms or previous experience is required.
Additionally, the pageant committee will be hosting a Little Sister pageant for girls between the age of 3 to 13 years old.
Winners of this inaugural pageants will represent Kauai at the state pageant scheduled in the fall.
