Hawaii Pacific Health invites the public to a free community health event to learn about the latest advances in cancer care on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Ala Moana Hotel. The program will also be available via video conference at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai.
Dr. David Byrd, professor of surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine, will be a special guest speaker. He is also the director and section chief of surgical oncology for the Pancreatic Cancer Specialty Clinic at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Byrd will provide his insights on personalized medicine in general oncology.
Featured speakers are:
• Dr. James Kakuda, a surgical oncology specialist and chief of staff at Pali Momi Medical Center who will discuss the latest advances in colon cancer surgery;
• Dr. Ayman Abdul-Ghani, a thoracic surgery specialist at Straub Clinic & Hospital who will share the latest advances in lung cancer screening and surgery;
• Dr. Michael Carney, a gynecologic oncology specialist at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children who will provide an update on ovarian and endometrial cancers;
• Dr. Amy Corliss, a specialist in palliative care and hospital medicine, who will discuss advance care planning.
