A 42-year-old man remains hospitalized following an altercation at Anini Beach Thursday.
Kauai firefighters, police and medics responded to a reported assault around 1 p.m. near the end of Anini Road. Firefighters tended to the victim before he was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. He remains hospitalized.
The suspect, Kyle Matthew Welch, 27, of Princeville, was identified and arrested at the scene around 2 p.m. Welch has since been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Welch has a previous arrest for disorderly conduct on April 29, 2013. He was listed as a resident of Lawai at the time.
