Mariko Strickland Lum and Kanani Strickland will be hosting tryouts for an Under 14 Girls Hawaii Youth Soccer Association team Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Sports Park close to Lydgate Park in Wailua.
Interested participants are asked to bring a soccer ball, and if the participant is currently registered on a HYSA team, must have a written release to participate.
Mariko grew up playing soccer on Kauai and on Oahu for the Leahi Club Soccer. She was an Olympic Development Program Region IV team member for four years and attended national ODP youth camps.
Mariko played Division I soccer for Long Beach State, advancing to play semi-pro for Ajax in Los Angeles.
