We don’t often turn to children for advice, but perhaps we should. We don’t expect them to provide pearls of wisdom, but they do. We don’t look to them to lead, but they can. Consider the words of Maddy Blake.
We don’t often turn to children for advice, but perhaps we should. We don’t expect them to provide pearls of wisdom, but they do. We don’t look to them to lead, but they can.
Consider the words of Maddy Blake. The 12-year-old from San Diego periodically visits relatives on Kauai, and submitted an essay about her most recent stay.
It’s short, sweet and poignant, and we want to share it with you. Sometimes, such words can help us find perspective in our lives.
Kauai is a beautiful place. Once you arrive there you will never want to leave. It is filled with life and color. You can smell the freshness of the air as you inhale. You can hear the chickens on the beach clucking. You can smell the salt in the clear blue ocean. You can feel the warm sand between your toes before you enter the water.
Inside the ocean is the best part of the island in my book. You just feel rejoiced every time you take a swim. There are nice turtles that might come and greet you or if you’re lucky you might even see a dolphin. There is also a wide array of fish and other sea life that is out there that is just gorgeous. Last but definitely not least, the water in the ocean itself is wonderful! It’s so warm you feel like you could stay in the water forever.
The worst thing about the island is leaving it. Every time I leave I can’t wait to return. I believe everyone would too. I hope someday everyone could go there for at least a day and realize the true beauty that Kauai holds. – Maddy Blake
As her relative wrote when forwarding the essay to us, “We all need to try to see our wonderful Kauai from a child’s perspective.”
