New Year’s shopping took the forefront Saturday at the Kauai Community Market when Elvrine Chow hosted Hank Zeevat (Hans and Sylvia Zeevat left Pepper with Elvrine while they distributed kadomatsu – real ol’ style) to distribute kadomatsu (sales were brisk), although he said buyers had to go to Ace Hardware to complete the display with plum blossoms.
Sandi Kato-Klutke (a couple visiting from Germany said her name sounded real German) had Kinako Bits and other mochi items which sold real quickly … her lemon meringue pie never made it to the market.
Liz Hahn was going crazy with her new black bettas, and Nancy Phillion had citrus pops (just in time for the hot sun).
The Hoouluwehi sustainability program made its debut and hopes to be able to come each week with lettuce and other produce from the garden.
Happy New Year, Kauai!
