A two-day workshop is mandatory for becoming an interpreter for the Hawaii State Judiciary. The workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 27-28 at the Lihue courthouse.
The early registration fee is $75 if the application is received prior to Jan. 9. After that it’s $95.
In addition to completing the orientation workshop, persons seeking to become a state court interpreter must pass a criminal background check, a written English proficiency exam and a court interpreter ethics exam.
Court interpreters are paid between $25 to $55 per hour with a two-hour minimum.
