The kindergarten class at the Kekaha Elementary School had reason to go bananas.
They won the third annual Recycle Projects program sponsored by Waste Management of Hawaii, Kauai.
For their efforts, the class recently earned an iPad.
John Ruiz, district manager for Waste Management, Kauai, at the Kekaha Landfill, said there were three grade-level categories for a total of nine iPads given away during the school’s annual Winter Celebration. The first and second place classes earned iPads, while third place class earned a mini iPad.
The kindergarten class earned top honors in the preschool, kindergarten, and first-grade division.
First place honors went to the fourth-grade class for its rendition of an oversized Monopoly board using various labels and reused items.
Top honors in the third-grass class was a menagerie of animals fashioned from various plastic bottles and decorated with a variety of reused items.
Additionally, Ruiz said Waste Management recognized 44 students who have had perfect attendance during the school year with a gift certificate.
Waste Management also donated four laptop computers to the school for its hard work on the recycle projects and for students’ perfect attendance.
