What is the real meaning of Christmas? Is it all about presents, food, lights, parties and caroling? Those things are certainly nice, but we think there’s more to it.
Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Dec. 25. Christmas is also known as Noél, Xmas and Yule. Other religions, such as Buddhists, celebrate Bodhi day, Jews celebrate Hanukkah and atheists have festivals like “The Winter Solstice Gathering.”
Whatever your tradition may be in the celebration of Christmas, we hope your family is part of it. Sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, if you can’t be together on this day, make a phone call.
Remind your family how much they mean to you. The days, the months, even the years, fly by far too quickly. Christmas is a time to reflect on the year, to be thankful, to give praise and remember that family is the one of the best gifts we have. We don’t always get along with family, but we can still love them.
Look around. What is surrounding you this Christmas? Friends, family, strangers, work colleagues? Whoever may be by your side, take time to share a smile or a shaka and wish them a Merry Christmas. It might make more of a difference than you believe.
Anyway, you don’t want to be known as the Scrooge who doesn’t smile back.
