LIHUE — Bingo night is more than an outing for the seniors, said Jonell Kaohelaulii, marketing director for the Kukui Grove Center.
“Tonight, they’re playing for gift cards which help them add to their shopping power,” Kaohelaulii said. “This is the Christmas edition of Family Bingo Night.”
Co-sponsored by the Regency at Puakea, Kaohelaulii said the shopping center will start a regular schedule of free family bingo nights in February.
Sharon Lasker, marketing director for the Regency at Puakea, said the assisted living and retirement facility brought 14 residents to Kukui Grove for bingo night Wednesday.
Organizers encouraged the contribution of two canned goods, or non-perishable items for the Kauai Independent Food Bank’s Holiday Food and Fund Drive.
“We also have the Kauai High School Leo Club helping run prizes and just being available to help the kupuna if they need help,” said Kelvin Moniz, interim director for KIFB. “This is a big thing to have students come and help out.”
Moniz served as a guest caller to the amusement of KIFB staff members and its board of director members.
“I absolutely love this,” said Eileen Winters, KIFB board member. “I haven’t done this for a while, but I just love this.”
