HANAPEPE — Waimea’s Isaiah Duldulao netted two goals to upend Kauai High School on Saturday.
The Waimea varsity boys soccer team, coached by Kapono Chong-Hanssen with assistants Lindsey Ibara and Travis Kagawa, played aggressively and physically from the onset in its 2-1 win over Kauai at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kauai answered Duldulao’s score with one from Marcus Brown to prevent the shutout.
Kauai JV girls rolled over the Menehune JV girls, 18-0, and the Kauai varsity girls posted a 3-0 win over the Waimea girls.
“Everyone but two girls scored,” said Kevin Gusman, a coach with the Kauai JV girls. “We moved the girls around and pulled them into defense after they scored.”
Kevin Devitt, the coach for the Kauai varsity girls, said he doesn’t remember who scored for the team.
“It was a good game, though,” Devitt said. “Waimea is a tough team.”
With the win, Kauai will host Island School at Vidinha Stadium when the varsity boys square off starting at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity girls starting at 7 p.m.
Waimea will play against Kapaa at Hanapepe Stadium with the varsity boys kicking off at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity girls starting at 7 p.m.
The JV squads take the field Thursday when Kapaa’s JV boys travel to Hanapepe Stadium for a 5 p.m. meeting with Waimea followed by the girls starting at 7 p.m.
