WAILUA — A Wailua man was hospitalized for injuries sustained in a house fire on Ohana Street this morning.
The fire was reported at 6:46 a.m. and Kapaa firefighters were on scene by 7:06 a.m. to find the upstairs portion of the home engulfed in flames.
One of the home’s five occupants suffered severe burns while attempting to extinguish the blaze. The 29-year-old man was initially transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and later medevaced to Straub Hospital in Honolulu.
The fire was fully extinguished by 8 a.m. and caused roughly $150,000 in damages to the two-story home and its contents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
