Bernard Mahuiki
Bernard Hosea Mahuiki Sr. of Anahola passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on December 10, 2013, at the age of 70. He was born in Haena, Kauai on April 20,1942, he retired as an equipment operator with the County of Kauai.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Mahuiki; son, Bernard (Michele Polowsky) Mahuiki Jr.; daughter, Terri-Ellen (Larry) Sembrano; four grandchildren, Jhensen-Hosea Sembrano-Mahuiki, Kawehi Mahuiki, Clarence “Mauka boy” Sembrano Jr., Jheresa Evelyn Sembrano, all of Anahola; brother, Samson Mahuiki Sr.; sisters, Marie Inouye, Luka Mahuiki; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Bernard’s house, 3860 Konona Rd., Anahola, with services beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Mahuiki family with arrangements.
Hisayo Akama
Hisayo Y. Akama of Kapa’a passed away at home on October 8, 2013, at the age of 95. She was born in Lihue on July 1, 1918 and was the owner of Yukimura Store.
Preceded in death by her husband Terumi Akama, she is survived by her son Roger (Fely) Akama of Kapa’a and daughter Jean Akama of Gilbert, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Justine (Patrick) Henriques, Wesley (Amy) Akama, Rylan Akama, Ty Akama, Jacob LaPinta, Joshua LaPinta and Jenna LaPinta; 2 great-grandchildren, Lanning Henriques and Natasha Akama; sisters, Kimie Ozaki, Mitsue (Bob) Kataoka and Yuriko Nanbu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at Kapa’a United Church of Christ with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and services at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m.

Emmeleen Contrades
Emmeleen “Chic” Haunani Keyes Contrades, 74, of Nanakuli passed away on November 14, 2013 at Pali Momi Medical Center. She was born in Honolulu, a retired Executive Housekeeper for the Colony Hotels & Resorts Hawaii Pacific Monarch.
Preceded in death by her great-grand daughter Chloe Kaleiu’iohaunani Kahaunaele Marquez. She is survived by husband Daniel W. Contrades, Sr.; son Daniel “Kaniela” W. Contrades, Jr.; daughters Rainnette (Glenn) Nagasako, Ginger Contrades, Danielle (Israel) Padilla, Lorna “La” Contrades, Emmeleen (Dale) Eiser, and Sheila (John IV) Kapua; brother Michael Keyes; sister Mavourneen “Midge” Keyes, and sister-in-law Betty Keyes; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel of the Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus. Visitations will be from 12pm to 1pm. Services to follow.
