POIPU — Blooms soaked up the moisture in the air from the overnight storm Sunday at the National Tropical Botanical Garden South Shore Visitor Center.
Vendors at the annual craft fair were a bit more tentative, picking their way between puddles and carefully stepping on wet grass.
“We lost a tent,” said Gwen Silva, manager of the NTBG Visitor Center gift shop and coordinator of the craft fair. “We got it up again, though, just in time for the vendors to start arriving.”
Because of the inclement weather, vendors were free to pick their own spots, each vying for the best vantage point.
Richard Hilgendorff, photographer, was a first-time vendor, noting how his wife Gayle got too late a start in trying to exit the muddy, soggy grounds and nearly got their car stuck.
Silva said in addition to the 50 vendors who braved the weather, there was a slate of entertainment.
The Women Artists of Kauai will descend to the NTBG South Shore Visitor Center on Dec. 15 for the fifth annual Winter Fine Art Festival featuring (women) artists from around the island.
