POIPU — Wes Perreira of the Hawaii Food Bank, Kauai Branch has been busy distributing bins at the neighborhood centers on the island.
Perreira and Joan Conrow, Hawaii Food Bank, Kauai Branch public relations officer, were at the National Tropical Botanical Garden craft fair Sunday, collecting funds and nonperishable food.
The food drive runs through the end of the month.
“People are able to drop off their contributions at any of the neighborhood centers, or in the lobby of the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative building in Lihue,” Conrow said.
She suggested that canned goods, including soups, meals-in-a-can, and vegetables, be dropped off at the neighborhood centers.
The collection bins will be clearly marked with a Hawaii Food Bank banner.
“We have a great need for canned meat, such as Spam,” Conrow said. “The meals-in-a-can like Ravioli are also really good for families. We also have a demand for rice, but due to its nature of packaging, rice should be dropped off only at the KIUC location where the collection bin is in the lobby and protected from the weather.”
Businesses and organizations wishing to conduct a food drive can contact Perreira, 652-1444.
