HANALEI — The County of Kauai reports that Ocean Safety Bureau officers have closed all beaches north of the Hanalei pavilion from Hanalei to Kee as of Friday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Dangerous ocean conditions on the North Shore, in combination with strong rip currents and waves with 15- to 25-foot faces forced the decision. Beachgoers are urged to travel to guarded beaches further east and south for swimming and snorkeling, including Kealia; Lydgate, Poipu, and Salt Pond.
For current information on ocean conditions speak with county lifeguards, call the Ocean Safety Bureau at 241-4984, or visit www.kauaiexplorer.com.
