Steven Tavares
Steven Tavares of Kalaheo, Kauai, Hawaii passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on November 17, 2013, at the age of 68. He was born on Kauai on December 18, 1944. He was a retired fire fighter for the County of Kauai.
He was preceded in death by parents, Manuel and Elizabeth Tavares.
He is survived by wife, Isabelle Tavares, Kalaheo; sons, James (Serina) Tavares, Kalaheo; Christopher (Jeanie) Tavares, Wailua; daughter, Jennifer (Jesse) Pasag, Kalaheo; grandchildren, Shawn Tavares; Tanner Tavares; Connor Tavares; Shelbee Tavares; Chloe Tavares; Leila Pasag.
Celebration of life Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kalaheo. Visitation 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m.

George “Aloha George,” “Big George” Daniel Gonzalez III of Puhi left this world peacefully at home on November 9, 2013, at the age of 64. He was born in Indio, California on January 30, 1949, and was employed by the Grand Hyatt as a doorman and limousine driver.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Daniel Gonzalez Jr., and favorite uncle, Eddie Norte.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Sullivan Gonzalez of Puhi; mother, Cecilia Alice Norte Holman of Nevada City, California; sisters, Rauleen (Thomas) Weckworth of Ventura, California, Bernadine (Larry) Lefmann of Nevada City, California; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Shipwrecks Beach with memorial services beginning at 3 p.m.

Margaret “Tita” Ka’onohiolaokalani Goodwin Akana passed away on October 16, 2013, in her home at the blessed age of 91. She was born on July 9, 1922, in Paliuli, Waimea, Kauai.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Kani Goodwin Sr. and Margaret Kamala Kama’i Goodwin of Paliuli, Waimea, Kauai; brothers, William Kani Goodwin Jr., Lawrence Laulani Goodwin, Robert Hi’ilei Goodwin, Ellsworth Goodwin; husband, Solomon Maluna Waipa Akana Sr.; sons, Curtis Naninohea Goodwin, Solomon Maluna Waipa Akana Jr., Norman Kuakini Waipa Akana Sr.; and daughter, Ernestine Ku’uleinanioPaliuli Summers.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth “Buddy” Kapenakealohaokalana Silva of Kuliouou, Oahu; sons, William Kani Goodwin (Malia) Akana of Kekaha, Stewart Kopa (Layla) Akana of Puhi, Calvin Kealoha (Jeanne) Fu of Hanapepe; daughters, Ellen Leinani (Tony) Blas of Wailua, Carol Hali’imaile (Walter) Apana of Anahola; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Akana (Norman) of Eleele; 24 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Ka’onohiolaokalani’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Lucy Wright Park, Waimea, Kauai. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration to honor and remember Ka’onohiolaokalani.
Deborah Sims
Deborah (Debbie) Lei Sims passed away on November 17, 2013, at her home at the age of 60. She was born on October 26, 1953, in Lihue, HI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Lydgate Rinker and Robert Rinker. Debbie is survived by husband Frank Sims; two sisters, Melody Rinker-Behrendt and her husband Randy of Eugene, OR and Jennifer Rinker of Graham, WA; two children, Damara Bouchet of Tangent, OR, and Daniel Dufrene and his wife Belami of Orange, CA; two grandchildren, Jack and Noah Dufrene; two aunts, Lois (Lydgate) Coleman and Joan (Lydgate) Burns and their husbands; an uncle; numerous cousins, and a niece.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at New Life Fellowship Church in Longview, WA at 11 a.m.

Betty Masaki
Betty Yaeko Masaki passed away on November 20, 2013, at the age of 83. Born on August 24, 1930, in Wahiawa, Hawaii she was a Missionary with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Cynthia) Masaki of Sugar Land, Texas, and Stephen (Leslie) Masaki of St. Louis Missouri; daughter, Jaynealyce (Tom) Mitchell of Sacramento, California; brother, Abraham Takahashi of Honolulu, Hawaii; sister, Florence Baggett of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 26, 2013, at The Veterans Cemetery Pavilion in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Kenneth Mathews
Kenneth J. Mathews passed away on November 14, 2013, at home in Yucaipa, CA at the age of 62. Born on March 2, 1951, in Storm Lake, IA. He was an Electrician.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Clara Mathews; brother Bobby Mathews and Bruce Gleason.
He is survived by his wife Kathie Gaughan Mathews, daughter Jenny Clare and son Ryan James Mathews.

Misao Kakehi Shimamoto of Kealia, Kauai passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on October 27, 2013, at the age of 90. She was born in Kapaa, Kauai on July 1, 1923, and was a retired housekeeping inspector for the Coco Palms Hotel.
She is survived by sons, Alan (Sharon) Shimamoto of Aiea, Oahu; Donald (Sharlene) Shimamoto of Wailua Homesteads, Kauai; Patrick (JoAnn) Shimamoto of Wailua Homesteads, Kauai; daughter, Karen Takahashi of Wailua Homesteads; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine (Michael) Shiroma of Walnut Creek, California; Fumiko Kakehi of Ewa Beach, Oahu; Shirley Morimoto of Kapaa, Kauai; Loretta Ishida of Ewa Beach, Oahu; Daisy (Peter) Ishihara of Kaneohe, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. Family requests no Koden.
