Margaret Akana
Margaret “Tita” Kaopnohiolaokalani Goodwin Akana passed away on October 16, 2013 at her home at the age of 91. She was born on July 9, 1922, in Paliuli, Waimea, Kauai.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Kani Goodwin, Sr. and Margaret Kamala Kamai Goodwin; brothers, William Kani Goodwin Jr.; Lawrence Laulani Goodwin; Robert Hiilei Goodwin; Ellsworth Goodwin; husband, Solomon Maluna Waipa Akana Sr.; sons, Curtis Naninohea Goodwin; Solomon Maluna Waipa Akana Jr.; Norman Kuakini Waipa Akana Sr.; and daughter, Ernestine Kuuleinanio Paliuli Summers.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth “Buddy” Kapenakealohaokalana Silva of Kuliouou, Oahu; sons, William Kani Goodwin (Malia) Akana of Kekaha; Stewart Kopa (Layla) Akana of Puhi; Calvin Kealoha (Jeanne) Fu of Hanapepe; daughters, Ellen Leinani (Tony) Blas of Wailua; Carol Haliimaile (Walter) Apana of Anahola; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Akana of Eleele; 24 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Lucy Wright Park, Waimea, Kauai. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m., with the celebration to follow.

Ruth Smith
Ruth Lydia Smith of Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on October 29, 2013, at her home at the age of 90. Born on February 25, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was a Retired Clinical Psychologist and Co-Author of 5 books (1977 – 2003) on childhood development utilizing information and records from the Kauai Longitudinal Study.
Preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Edith Spangler and brother, Harry Spangler.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Earl Smith, Lawai; daughter, Laurie Smith-Wishard, Lawai; sons, Stephen (Margaret) Smith, Lawai; Barry (Claudette) Smith, Hawi; David (Sylvia) Smith, Lawai; 3 grandchildren Chelsea Smith-Wishard, Saian Smith and Eamon Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday November 22, 2013, at Saint Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, Lihue. Service at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Friends of The Children’s Justice Center, Kauai or Hale ‘Opio Kauai, Inc.

Elpidio Cardenas
Elpidio Adviento Cardenas, 90, of Puhi passed away on November 2, 2013, surrounded by his family, at Garden Isle Healthcare. He was born on April 26, 1923, in Santa, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for Grove Farm, Lihue Plantation and Rego trucking.
Mr. Cardenas is predeceased by his first wife, Juana Victoria Bueno Cardenas; parents, Patricio and Hipolita Cardenas; and siblings, Clothilde, Dolores and Patrick.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen A. Cardenas of Puhi, Kauai; five children, Elpidio B. “Tony” (Lori) Cardenas of Lawai, Kauai, Edie B. (Roy) Bonilla of Pukalani, Maui, William B. (Fe Eugenio) Cardenas of Honolulu, Roland B. Cardenas of Las Vegas, Nevada, James A (Kanani Dreier) Cardenas of Puhi, Kauai; six grandchildren, Michael A. (Achel Elmore) Cardenas of Murietta, California, John D. Cardenas of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Riane Ashley Cardenas of Honolulu, Reece A Bonilla of Pukalani, Maui, Jessica Crystal “Jaycee” Cardenas of Honolulu and Stephanie Marie Bonilla of Pukalani, Maui.
Friends may visit with the family at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. The family requests that flowers be omitted and suggests aloha attire.

Inocencio Efhan
Inocencio “Sancho” Efhan of Kapaa passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2013, at the age of 82. He was born in Kapaa, Kauai on October 10, 1931. A veteran of the United States Marines and United States Coast Guard, he retired as a cook from Kauai Surf and The Westin Hotel. He was an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ciriaca and Tiofilo Efhan; brothers, Alfredo; Lorenzo; Francisco; Maximo and Juan Efhan; sisters, Patricia Chapman; Mary Louis and Rosita Efhan; granddaughter, Shawnte “Keala” Efhan Jaquias.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Efhan of Kapaa; daughters, Bernie (Harlan) Nakae of Kapaa; Suzie Efhan of Kalaheo; Sherrie (Norman) Duterte of Kapaa; Val Yadao of Puhi; Lulu (Wilbert) Cummings of Puhi; sons, Gregory “Teo” Efhan of Anahola; Aaron (Janis) Efhan of Lihue; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gary (Judith) Efhan of California; Vicente (Helga) Efhan of Kapaa; Henry (Priscilla) Efhan of Kapaa; hanai sister, Lorraine Efhan of Kapaa; hanai brother, Larry (Mary) Ephan of Lawai; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion beginning at 9 a.m. Inurnment to follow.

William “Bill” Kinney
William “Bill” Boyd Kaipo Kinney of Wailua Houselots passed away at home on November 3, 2013, at the age of 74. He was born in Koloa, Kauai on June 25, 1939, and retired as a Radar Technician with Hawaii Air National Guard.
Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lei Kinney; step-son, Stephen Mardonada; grandson, Tyson Kinney.
He is survived by his wife, Marge K. Kinney; children, Yvette Kahaunaele, Kihapiilani Kinney, Kaipo Kinney, Jessie Yamamoto-Kinney; step-children, Kealoha Medeiros, Georgina Failautusi, Raimie Mardonada, Anthony Mardonada; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren,; sister, Vola Lauae McGwin; brother, Arthur Kailua Kinney Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at noon.

Andres Gaor
Andres Galicinao Gaor formerly of Kaumakani and Hanapepe, Kauai passes away on November 5, 2013, at Hale Kupuna at the age of 97. He was born on November 30, 1915, in Lanao Bangui Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He was a retired Laborer for Olokele Sugar Company.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Perfecta Dureg Gaor; and his daughter, Emy Gaor Dela Cruz.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cristina (Nick) Jamorabon; Aida Gaor Dolfo; 8 grandchildren; 20 Great grandchildren; 1 Sister, Germana Dureg; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friend may visit with the family on Thursday November 21, 2013, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9 a.m. to 9:45 am. Where mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe public cemetery.

Orlino Antolin Sr.
Orlino Sagucio Antolin Sr. of Eleele, Kauai passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 26, 2013, at his home in Eleele, Kauai at the age 77. He was born on April 6, 1936, in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He retired from Olokele Sugar Company in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Inocencio and Catalina Antolin; siblings, Ederlina, Juanito and Ofelia Antolin, and son in law, Garrick Nakaahiki.
He is survived by his wife, Esperanza Antolin; Four daughters, Oriente Nakaahiki; Rosaly (Frank) Domenden; Leoni (Allan) Texeira; Imelda (Paul) Delos Reyes; one son, Orlino (Ivy) Antolin, Jr.; Three brothers, Rene (Tessie) Antolin; Oscar (Nelita) Antolin; Cezar (Adoracion) Antolin; Two sisters, Clemencia Calumag; Edna (Robert) Garvida; 10 Grandchildren, Shanette (Jason) Dias, Ashley Nakaahiki, Justin (Irene) Michaud, Christine (Rey) Grande, Joscelynn (Gino) Jarquio, Joni (Devin) Texeira, Dawn Texeira, Jenna Antolin, Robbyn Delos Reyes, Trey Delos Reyes; 9 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald “Ron” Wesley Gilbert of Wailua Homesteads, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on September 20, 2013, at his residence at the age of 70. He was born on March 4, 1943, in California. He was the owner of House of Noodles.
He is survived by wife, Phongpun “Pong” Gilbert, Wailua Homesteads; sons, Desmond Gilbert, Lihue; Pholphak “Golf” Gilbert, Wailua Homesteads; daughters, Alicia Gilbert, Wailua Homsteads; Samantha Gilbert, Wailua Homesteads; 1 grandchild; numerous friends.

Margaret “Marge” V. Nearing of Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away on November 12, 2013, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. She was born on September 1, 1936, in New Jersey. She was a retired artist.
She was preceded in death by parents, James and Jessie Nearing;
She is survived by daughters, Lee (Dave) Rowen, Koloa; Melanie Polizzi, New Jersey; Tracy Mc Coy, North Carolina; son, Jay Jacobson, New Jersey; sister, Rita Eldridge, Florida; 10 grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ian Ishikawa
Ian Isami Ishikawa passed away on November 3, 2013, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 55. Born on June 7, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, he was an Entrepreneur.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Ishikawa.
He is survived by his son, Claven Hasegawa of Hanapepe; mother, Takako Ishikawa; brothers, Wade (Grace) Ishikawa of Hanapepe and Robert (Donna) Ishikawa of Hanapepe; sister, Lynn (Craig) Hayashi of Hanapepe; two grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private services were held. Scattering of ashes at a later date.

Lillian Cramer
Lillian Marie Cramer of Lawai, Kauai passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on November 9, 2013, at the age of 81. She was born on Kauai in Kukuiula on November 22, 1931. She is retired as a Medical Records Technician from Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanito and Cecilia Morris; sisters, Katherine Morris and Shirley Morris.
Lillian is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Cramer; sons, Brian Cramer and Lloyd Cramer; 2 grandchildren; brother, John Philip Morris; sister, Constance Ramkissoon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Lawai Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church with visitation starting at 12 p.m. and services from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 3:30 p.m.
