The game in the Boys Under 14 division was one of two upsets taking place in the Kauai Soccer Association fall league games at the North Vidinha fields.
“This was a great playoff Sunday,” said Jane Garma, KSA scorekeeper. “There were exciting endings, last-minute goals for several games and a penalty kick determining the outcome of one game.”
The No. 3 seed Team Onipaa ‘03 Boys BU12 upset the No. 2 seed NS Nation FC BU12 in the PK shootout after both teams were knotted 1-1 following regulation play.
Diego Hernandez netted the goal for the NS Nation and Carlos Lang did the honors for Team Onipaa resulting in the stalemate.
Niko Yamauchi netted two goals to lead the top-seeded Keahi BU8 to a 2-0 win over the No. 2 seed Lihue Arsenal BU8.
Under 10
Kaleonahe Bukoski scored two goals and got help from Logan Kashima, Seija Makanani and Sianni Sakai with a goal each to lead the Lihue Cougars GU10 to a 5-0 shutout over Keahi GU10.
Hayley Overmyer had the hot foot for the No. 2 Futsal Kauai A GU10, scoring five goals and getting help from Kaia Caberto, who netted a goal in its 6-2 win over No. 3 Makani GU10. Kayley Gardner scored the two nets for Makani.
Kalei Kanehe netted a hat trick to lead the top seed NS Nation FC BU10 to its 8-0 shutout over No. 4 seeded Rush BU10. Kanehe got help from Kalista Brigante, Nahoa Davis, Tupelo Lathrop, Kalani Leibow and Hanna Wamsley who each scored a goal.
Aron Taguiam had the sole goal to lead No. 2 seed Makani BU10 to its 1-0 edge over No. 3 seed Lihue Arsenal BU9.
Under 12
Conor Hunt and Bryanna Perreira netted goals to lead top seeded Team Onipaa 02 Boys BU12 to a 2-0 win over No. 4 seed Keahi BU12.
Jessica Hreljac had the sole goal to lead the No. 2 Lihue Cougars GU11 to its 1-0 edge over the No. 3 seed NS Nation FC GU12.
Under 14
April Barnes, Ciena Caires and Cambria Ort scored goals for the top-seeded Rush GU14 in its 4-2 win over the No. 4 seeded Team Onipaa GU14 who got nets from Kyla Bandsma and Alexandria Temme.
Taelyn Nunes scored the only net as No. 2 seeded Pohaku GU14 edged out No. 3 seed NS Nation FC GU14.
April Barnes went into action for the second time, Sunday, scoring two goals for the top-seeded Rush North BU14 and being joined by Samuel Johnson who also netted a pair of goals in the top-seeded Rush’s 10-2 win over the No. 4 seed Team Onipaa BU14.
Barnes and Johnson were joined by goals from Emiliano De La Mora, Andres Elzaurdia, Gabriel Franklin, Joshua Layaoen, Trevor Schaefer and Tutearii Tuturu.
Andrew Kins scored both goals for Team Onipaa.
Under 16
The Rush GU16 game against the Kauai Sparks GU18 was canceled, and in the final game of the day, the No. 2 Rush North White BU16 took a 5-0 win over No. 3 seed Keahi BU16 behind goals from Eljay Camat, Michael DeWitt, Kody Gardner, Matthew Schmidt, and Samuel Vernola.
The final games for the KSA fall season take place starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at the North Vidinha fields.
