The public can meet the newly-installed Miss Kauai Veteran when the Kauai Veterans Council hosts its annual Veterans Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kapaa.
“Moani Estrella Genegabuas is our new Miss Kauai Veteran who was recently installed,” said Aida Cruz of the Kauai Veterans Council. “She’s from Kauai High School, and although the school does not have a Jr. ROTC program, her grandmother, Vicky Ramos, is active in the military along with her uncle, Eddie Tacub, who is currently stationed in England.”
The Kauai High School senior is just one of the many units who will be parading in honor of the country’s and Kauai’s Army National Guard and Air National Guard units through historic downtown Kapaa Town.
Starting at Panihi Road near the Kapaa Shopping Center and continuing through the Kapaa Beach Park, traffic along the parade route will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the parade.
Kuhio Highway, from Kipuni Way to Lehua Street will be closed to traffic from 9:30 a.m.
Officers will be manning the closures and directing traffic flow to the Kapaa Bypass Road during the time the roads are closed.
Motorists in the area should plan for traffic delays.
Following the parade, the public is invited to the Kapaa Beach Park, where Major General Darryl Wong, Adjutant General, will deliver keynote remarks during the ceremonies, which will be part of the celebration featuring craft booths, food vendor stations, and entertainment.
Kumu Hula and her halau Ka Lei Mokihana Leinaala will be joined by the popular Cruz Control and Ponobreez among the lineup.
